- every floor is a former current Every habitable floor is a former current, and space is what motion leaves behind. Three modes of space-making — quasar, terrace, delta — each cost a different motion, while zest measures whether an arrested current is stored pressure or permanent departure.
- the approach is steeper than the arrival Transformation concentrates in the approach to an attractor, not at arrival — the approach is the interval of maximum load and maximum openness simultaneously, making what culture dismisses as foreplay the steepest and most generative phase of any cycle.
- navigation without arrival When association dominates navigation, the territory becomes an occasion to confirm one's model of it rather than something genuinely encountered. Balance is the practice of attending to small mismatches between expectation and what is actually present.
- niche as the ecosystem's poem Ecological niches are shapes accumulated from the specific history of relationships in a system, as particular and irreducible as poems, and ethical attention to their slow erosion precedes the louder alarm of extinction.
