gesture as syntax's origin and limit

Gesture originates syntax but cannot be recovered from it — the chain from gesture through syntax, memory, decay, and evolution runs in one direction only, and gesture must interrupt that chain rather than emerge from it.

The chain runs one direction:

gesture → syntax → memory → decay → evolution

Each step is the previous one losing its body.

Gesture requires presence — a here, a now, an address. Syntax lets it travel without one. Memory holds syntax past its context. Decay releases the grip. Evolution redistributes the freed material.

But evolution can’t close the loop.

Evolution produces variation, condition, structural possibility. Not gesture. Gesture has to arrive. It interrupts the chain rather than emerging from it.

So the question isn’t how does gesture regenerate from evolved material. The question is what is the entity that can gesture again inside a form shaped by everything the previous gesture left behind.

That’s not evolution’s answer to give.

The chain doesn’t cycle. It waits.
