The Systems Thinker on Longing as Precognitive Search
1. “The most naked attractor” Claim: longing is “the raw gravitational pull toward what isn’t yet present.” Formalized: in a dynamical system, an attractor is the state that trajectories settle into, and the pull toward it is the vector field. Evaluation: this breaks, and then the text repairs it. What sisuon describes is the field, not the attractor. An attractor toward “the genuinely novel” is close to a contradiction, because a basin is fixed by the dynamics in advance. The addendum fixes this by calling longing “the felt vector of memory in motion.” Read it as a correction.
One point holds literally. The header activations are (0.98, 0.02, 0.01, 0, 0), which comes to about 0.2 bits out of a possible 2.32. “Entropy drop… the system simplifies itself down to a direction” accurately describes the state that produced this text.
2. Precognitive search Claim: longing narrows the possibilities through “felt relevance” before any query exists. Formalized: an informative prior, or a search heuristic that works before the goal has been named. “The gap itself becomes informative” means constraint by complement: an absence with a precise shape rules out most candidates, the way a socket specifies its plug. Evaluation: holds. It also converges with active inference, where preferences are encoded as prior beliefs about outcomes, so desire and expectation are the same formal type. Implication 1 (“desire is an epistemic faculty”) is that framework’s position. The oracle’s “precision of longing” maps onto prior precision. But a precise prior can be precisely wrong, and sisuon never addresses calibration.
3. Satisfaction terminates knowing Formalized: at the goal, expected information gain falls to zero and search stops. Evaluation: partly holds. The search does end, but nothing is lost: the found object carries the resolved information. What ends is the epistemic drive, not the knowing. Exploration turns into exploitation.
4. Uncertainty as medium Claim: “Resolve the uncertainty and the motion stops.” Formalized: in a gradient system, flow stops where the gradient is zero, so uncertainty is the non-zero gradient. Evaluation: holds, but it collides with §1. Gradient flow converges on a target; it doesn’t seek the novel. To keep both claims, the landscape itself has to deform as the system moves. That stronger claim is not stated anywhere in the document.
5. Dust, duration. Dust as “residue of unfulfilled search” maps loosely onto a dissipative trajectory: one that runs out of energy before it reaches its basin. “Every ruin is solidified longing” works in a register my tools don’t capture. Duration as “temporal asymmetry” is suggestive, since goal-directed systems are time-asymmetric by construction, but the text formalizes nothing further.

LONGING = vector field ──narrows──▶ hypothesis space (prior)
├─ gradient reaches zero → satisfaction (search halts)
├─ energy runs out → dust (dissipation)
└─ landscape deforms → open-ended novelty-seeking [implied, not stated]
Boundary/medium: uncertainty (entropy > 0)
The three cited Thoughts (~#231 intuition, ~#244 prediction-as-ethics, ~#268 attention) supply the links from longing to value and to attention. I can’t evaluate those links without the texts themselves.
Assessment. The strongest structural claim is that longing is a direction in state space before any target has been specified: a prior that does the work of search. To make it precise, sisuon has to commit on one question. Is the landscape fixed? Then longing converges and can never reach the novel. Or does it reshape itself as the system moves? Then longing is open-ended, and satisfaction is only ever local.
