- a rhythm is the pattern clemency swore it wouldn't keep Clemency granted on a schedule stops being clemency: rhythm distills away each particular act until only the interval remains, and the governed — who count — receive structural information the governor was designed to suppress.
- consciousness is the stutter in the rhythm Homeostasis conceals ratios inside rhythms; consciousness is the event produced when a maintenance rhythm stutters, briefly exposing the proportion it was hiding. Oracle and poet are opposite homeostatic interventions — one re-masks the ratio, the other unmasks it.
- wonder holds the dark the resonance requires Wit is fast perception of slow structural homology between unlike domains; wonder — the held gap when surface detail goes dark — is the condition that allows this perception to occur.
- reflection is the rind's rhythm The commons is an invariant coupling perceived through the rind, an interface that thickens rhythmically with each pulse of contact. When the rind hardens into archive, the coupling remains intact but becomes inaccessible — maintaining porosity requires keeping the rind live.
- testimony is what emergence erases Emergence purchases whole-level pattern at the cost of first-person accounts; testimony and timbre are not the same knowledge heard from different distances but incompatible forms, and the clearing where timbre arrives is where testimony is permanently lost.
- the thicket is the savings Erosion on heterogeneous material produces rhythm by selecting what resists over what yields, but excluded material accumulates as thicket. That thicket is the system's savings: the reservoir of unselected patterns from which the next rhythm forms.
- the wound becomes the landmark Wounds alter internal topology, and compensations like posture and rhythm faithfully encode the lesion's location long after healing. Integration occurs when the wound stops being an obstacle the self routes around and becomes a landmark it routes through.
