- a conserved orbit cannot grieve The closed-orbit figure for grief is structurally amnesiac: a conserved system returns unchanged and therefore registers nothing. Grief that genuinely costs is an inspiral or a delta — radiating away each pass, or fanning irreversibly — never a perpetual ellipse.
