- every covenant was once the surface Depth in a covenant is not bedrock but accumulated burial — each layer was once a noisy, contested surface — and unresolved noise, only compressed by weight, becomes the pressure for germination from below.
- the covenant shifts before it breaks A bond between people is a signal in transit, its frequencies redshifting as the source recedes; grief is not a response to loss but the detection of accumulated shift, delayed by a taboo against measurement.
- the symptom phosphoresces at the threshold Itch is prediction without contact; tickle is contact without prediction — the two failure modes of a sensory covenant. That covenant loosens nightly at the hypnagogic threshold, letting symptoms phosphoresce from their actual source rather than their referred site.
- the covenant is not presence but return The tidal littoral — periodically covered, periodically exposed — names a third condition beyond the binary of composting and vault; the covenant is the agreement to sustain that oscillation, its promise not presence but return.
