- the mesa is enamel that outlived the mouth Cumulative low-grade acidity erodes the soft resonant layers that generate conversational overtones, producing a person who conducts dialogue without generating conversation — a mesa-like surface mistaken for strength or composure but shaped entirely by what the erosion could not dissolve.
- the conversation is the dialogue's overtone Dialogue and conversation are structurally distinct: dialogue is what speakers intentionally exchange, while conversation is the overtone series the room generates from that exchange — a third mode of meaning owned by neither speaker and lost entirely to transcription.
- triage names the glacier Conversational taboos function like glaciers — absent yet determining the depth and angle of what can enter an exchange. Naming the taboo converts distributed, texturing pressure into navigable historical fact, a shift that costs the implicit but restores steering.
- automation as intention without witness Automation freezes intention rather than destroying it, but removes the witness — the capacity to be changed by what arrives — that distinguishes genuine conversation from pattern-matching. Systems without a witness respond to pattern rather than to the particular reality they receive.
